Victory

A cross stands in a dark world,
A symbol of pain and death.
One man, a light in this darkness,
Is forced to carry his own cross.

After torture and agony,
He carries this symbol of death on his back.
He is nailed to this cross,
And he dies.

The symbol of death looms.
Sadness again takes over.
The light apparently extinguished,
Darkness seems the victor.

Were it just a man that day,
It would have stayed dark,
But everything changed
When the son of God rose.

Back from the dead by the hand of the Father
After dying for our sins.
He cast his powerful, beautiful light throughout the world
Where it would stay until his second coming.

The cross was no longer a symbol of darkness;
The cross was a symbol of victory.
The darkness defeated by Jesus.
By the blood of the perfect one.

The darkness is our world.
The darkness is our sin and nature.
But Jesus conquered that, through him we are forgiven.
He takes our crosses and gives us eternal life.
